We were asked to provide comment on the proposal for the construction of a contemporary, but sympathetic addition which takes its inspiration from outbuildings that previously existed on the site and typified early development in the area.

4 Malton Road Beecroft is in the Plateau Precinct of the Beecroft Cheltenham Heritage Conservation Area. Prescriptive measures under the General Design provisions in the DCP particularly relevant to this proposal include:

• Avoidance of changes to fabric and form characteristic of the area.

• Additions to be located away from the street elevation and below the ridgeline.

• Traditionally roof form and pitch to rear extensions used skillion or simple pitched roof forms.

• Contemporary design should be sympathetic to the character of the area.

• Compatible but not necessarily matching material should be used.
