David Harrison and his wife, Martha, were Prominent figures in early 20th-Century Bowral, being the first storekeepers and managers of the post office, blacksmith’s shop and drapery. They had bought several parcels of land from famed surveyor J.N. Oxley, and in 1900, their land, the Harrison Estate, was subdivided ready for sale, including the land on which 74-76 Bendooley Street now stands.
Based on extensive research, our team concluded the house was constructed by at least July 1917. It certainly had a colourful and intriguing history; being named both 'Ivanhoe' and 'Langton' throughout its life. A tragic accidental death was reported to have occurred on the property, it was divided into appartments, utilised by the now-defunct 'Bong Bong motors' company, and inhabited by many prominent members of the Bowral Community.
