Sydney - InnerHeritage AssessmentHotels Authors: Dr Sue Rosen and Liz Gorman Client: Chamberlian Hotel We were pleased to complete a Heritage Impact Statement for our client, to modify approved plans for minor, historically sympathetic, internal alterations. Prior to 1902, the site of the Chamberlian Hotel was occupied by The Agricultural hotel, constructed in 1880. Chamberlian hotel was built from 1902-1904, the architects being unknown. Its distinctive Federation Anglo-Dutch style is also seen in the nearby Capitol Theatre and Markets Building. In this era the Central Railway precinct was growing in importance and hotels sprang up to service local workers and budget vacationers, who were attracted to the theatres in the area. Alterations were made to the building in the 1920's, and Copeman, Lemont and Keesing designed major renovations in 1936. These prolific architects designed many of the interwar functionalist pubs around Sydney which our team specialises in.
