This report presents a step by step process for assessing the significance of a line of road, drawing on frameworks established by the NSW Heritage Office. The report attempts to provide both a working model for assessing lines of road as well as an understanding of the specific problems that may be encountered in the management of lines of road as significant heritage items. Case studies include Mulgoa Road, Heathcote Road and the Western Descents from the Blue Mountains.
