Author: Dr Sid French, Sue Rosen, Beverley Johnson, Emma Dortins & Nicole Secomb

Client: Burns & Roe Worley & RTA

This study of 65 bridges was undertaken in association with Burns & Roe Worley. The study group comprises a set of 65 bridges under RTA control that were:

*constructed of reinforced concrete,

*of slab, beam and/or arch form,

*and built prior to 1948.

The objectives incorporated in the brief are summarised as follows:

1. Assessment of each individual bridge against each of the significance criteria as defined by

the NSW Heritage Office, and to provide a rating to each bridge of either State Significance,

Local Significance or No Significance.

2. Provide a ranking of the bridges in order of heritage significance

3. Prepare a statement of heritage significance for each bridge.

4. Enter information on each bridge into the RTA’s Heritage and Conservation Register.

5. On the basis of the above, establish the heritage significance of all Pre-1948 RTA Controlled

Concrete Slab and Concrete Arch road bridges in NSW.
